The Faculty of Informatics at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) welcomes applications
for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Information and Computer Security. The faculty’s
focus is always on excellence in both research and teaching – exceptional candidates in all
areas of Security are strongly encouraged to apply. The position is available from autumn
2025. The targeted starting date for the position is as early as September 1, 2025.

USI’s Faculty of Informatics is an international, English-speaking, research-focused faculty in
Lugano (Switzerland). About 200 researchers from around the world conduct research in
eight different macro-areas, with tens of millions of Swiss francs acquired through
competitive funding; since its inception 20 years ago, faculty members have obtained over a
dozen ERC grants and various other distinctions.
The faculty’s strong commitment to research impacts its educational programs through a
unique teaching philosophy where the student is actively and creatively placed at the heart of
the learning process. All academic programs of the faculty are entirely taught in English.
The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research computing facilities,
including a local university cluster and the Swiss high-performance computing center
(CSCS) in Lugano. Institutional funding for a Ph.D. position is provided, along with support
for travel and research infrastructure expenses. The Faculty is located in the University’s
newly opened East Campus, just minutes from the city center, featuring modern classrooms,
gyms, and on-campus childcare facilities.
Candidates’ profile
The successful candidate must:
- Hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields.
- Have a strong scientific track record in information security or computer security, such as
system security, applied cryptography, and other security-related topics. - Show the ability to build and maintain a research group supported by third-party funding.
- Be willing to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in information and computer
security (all Faculty teaching is in English).

Job description
The post-holder will be expected to:
- Teach one 6-ECTS course in the first year, and subsequently one 6-ECTS course per
semester. - Actively participate in university activities (faculty board meetings, committees, student
supervision).
General terms
Workplace is USI Università della Svizzera italiana, located in Lugano, Switzerland.
Availability to travel to other parts of Switzerland and abroad (for purposes of collaboration
and research) is required.
Salary will be defined according to terms and conditions as in the university Statutes.
Residence
Professors typically reside in Ticino, which is part of the Italian-speaking area of Switzerland.
The new professor is expected to provide consistent participation in the academic activities
of the university.
